Step 1- Know who your target audience is. Find specific and don't be general. You will be likely reach the audience you want this way.

Step 2- Make the content easy to skim.

  • Put important content in headlines.
  • Use bullet points.
  • Write backwards.Instead of building to the point, start with a point.

Step 3- Write simple content.

  • Keep the sentences and paragraphs short.
  • Use a basic font. Elaborate fonts are distracting and hard to read.
  • Aim for a basic reading level. Remember not all readers have the same education levels. The only exception would be if the web content you are writing has a specialized audience where everyone would be at the same education level.

Step 4- Keep the layout plain and simple.

  • You only want one idea to a page.
  • Don't overload a page with graphics. Less is more.
  • Keep the content under 400 to 500 words.

Step 5- Make it easy to use the web site.

  • Have simple menus.
  • Use headlines as transitional elements.
