A Review of Greatest Hits by Amy Grant

For fans and others just being introduced to her music, Greatest Hits will be a worthy purchase. It is the only collection of hits that spans her whole thirty years of making music.

This CD is the third collection of greatest hits for Amy Grant, although 2004's Greatest Hits 1986-2004 with A&M is no longer in print since she left the record company a few years ago. This CD is a marriage of that CD and 1986's The Collection.

The CD includes a wide selection of her music, including the smash hit "Baby, Baby," and CCM smash hit, "El Shaddai," arguably her two signature songs. The sound quality for many of the older songs is great; however, her whole catalog has been remastered so that value is somewhat lessened. But for those looking for an upgrade of just a few songs, buying this CD would certainly be a cheaper option than repurchasing older CDs for just one song.

Most of her mainstream and CCM radio hits are represented on the CD, making it a decent collection, although nothing new. For the diehard fan, there are no new songs, and while the bonus DVD does provide new video, the performances are songs already on the CD. Plus the DVD bonus material is mostly a promotion for her book Mosaic.

If you are looking for any of her recent CCM radio hits, they are missing. That is where this greatest hits CD falls short. There are several songs worthy to be considered part of her greatest hits collection that are not represented. "Lover of My Soul," "Children of the World," and "Nothing is Beyond You," are all missing despite the fact that they top the CCM charts.

Overall, I give a grade of B or four stars out of five.
