Why College Students Should Vote

Imagine sitting in a country where no one has a voice at all. Each and every person is a robot that performs the will of the government. No matter how horrible the situation or how angry anyone gets, the government will not listen to the people of the country. Pretty scary to think about is it not? Guess what, we practically live that way today. Our government could care less about the views of those us less than thirty years old. Why? We do not vote. If we want our voice to be heard, if we want our issues to be debated, young people need to stop our apathy and vote.

In the last election neither candidate used a lot of campaign money or time to reach the younger voters. Instead, they focused much of their time pandering to the upper middle and elderly age brackets, leaving many issues important to us untouched. Unheard were speeches that spoke about how we feel about social security and taxes. Furthermore, each candidate gave little attention to Generation X media. MTV had to work at getting either candidate to speak candidly with them, and George Bush most often declined the opportunity. These politicians know that the older generations cast the votes on Election Day.

Meanwhile, we sit back and complain about every single issue, yelling that the government does not represent us. The truth is, they don't. Why should they we are not threat to any one's reelection bid. Instead of complaining, we should make a difference. While congress focuses on the present, our future is being destroyed by our own apathy. If we want to save our future, we need to vote.

More and more of us are starting to vote now more than ever, but it is not enough. We need to make our voice be heard. Give support to politicians that listen to our voice. We can make a difference. According to Revolution X, most universities have a population large enough to swing the congressional vote for that district. Imagine what would happen if all college students voted in an election.

Your voice counts. Don't let it be drowned out. Register to vote, and do it. Your future depends on it.

How am I supposed to use this article as a reliable source, or even consider buying the book, if there are spelling errors left and right?
