Giving A Gift That Gives to Others

For so long I was inspired by the show "Three Wishes" to get out and do something that will really make a tangible and immediate difference in my community. I thought about changing careers and working for a non-profit organization, and that may be a route that I pursue at some point in time. Just today, though, I got thought as I was reading an internet post where people were making donations to charities in honor of someone. Why not give a Christmas gift this year that will help others?

What better way is there to give a gift than to give the gift away? Paradoxical isn't it. I mean give a gift that's already given away. When the surface is pulled away and the true gift is revealed, the reality of the gift seems much more special than an item that will most likely collect dust. Instead, I can honor someone with a gift that makes a difference. I just did it by going online and making a donation in honor of someone. There's been one organization that has always attracted me to it ever since I heard about it. That organization is Habitat for Humanity. They allow you to send a gift in someone's honor. They will even mail a card for you.

This is a charity of my choice. What would be the charity of your choice? I believe Compassion International will allow a gift in honor of someone, and they help with another basic need- food, and they also provide education. Maybe it's an organization like the Ronald McDonald House or St. Jude's Children's hospital. Send in a gift in someone's honor.

It doesn't even have to be a Christmas gift. This ideas works great for birthdays, Mother's Day or father's day.

Its easy to give our time for the people most dear to us, but what it difference it makes when you tell someone you don't even know they are dear to you as well. Maybe a charity isn't the best place for you to invest. One was mundane and thankless gift could be picking up trash at park can make a large impact on your community. Whether its buying the groceries of the next person in line or raking an elderly neighbor's yard, we should look for ways to share love and make a tangible difference in someone's life this holiday season.
